About

IZZY MICHELL

I’m an undergraduate student at Furman University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in graphic design and ceramics. I began my metal smithing journey in 2017 when I took a jewelry and metals work class in Cortona, Italy with the University of Georgia and since I have continued evolving my skills by apprenticing at Leandra Hill Metal Works in Greenville, SC. I consistently focuses on growing and adding further layers of personalization and dedication to my handmade art. I am currently working on my senior show where I’m creating my first line of jewelry.

I have worn jewelry every since I can remember. I would wear my great grandmother and mother’s rings and necklaces, when they would let that is, when I was old enough they started getting me my own jewelry. My first “real” piece of jewelry was a earring and ring set that my mother gave me. I wore them proudly. From then on jewelry became part of my everyday life.

Jewelry is an extension of the body and a form of self expression. I aim to create jewelry that is timeless and can be worn as a fashion statement or everyday wear; however one chooses too. I personally don’t take my jewelry off so it truly is a part of me and my identity.
